About

FUNDING PARTNERS

The Lakehead Coastal Resilience Management Plan has been funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Resilience Coastal Communities program.

OBJECTIVES

  • Public Engagement

Stakeholders and landowners will be engaged throughout the project to establish community values, identify existing threats, and co-develop the management plan to increase coastal resilience.

  • Updated Hazard Mapping

The project will generate updated flooding and erosion hazard mapping for the coastal jurisdiction of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority based on historical extremes. A second set of maps will be produced that integrated the impacts of a changing climate on natural hazards.

  • Coastal Resilience Management Plan

The updated hazard mapping will be used to complete a vulnerability assessment for coastal assets, including harbours and ports, roads and utility corridors, private and public lands, and ecosystems. Long-term strategies to increase resilience to natural hazards will be co-developed with the communities in the study area.
